Hair Benefits of Basil Leaves

Most commonly known as “Tulsi” in India, the basil plant is a leafy herb belonging to the mint family. Different varieties of basil are available in large or dwarf forms containing green, purple or variegated leaves. Some of the varieties of basil like Opal basil, lemon basil, anise basil, clove basil and cinnamon basil taste somewhat like their names.
This plant forms an important part of Indian culture. It is quite common in Hindu households where it is worshipped in the morning and evening. The leaves of this plant are edible and are used as flavoring agents due to their rich fragrance. Being one of the most popular herbs in the garden, it is extensively used in Italy in sauces and other dishes and is a key ingredient in Mediterranean food.
The Greek word for basil is ‘king’ which speaks highly of the qualities of this aromatic herb.  Basil plant, particularly the leaves, has great significance for mankind, not only because of its culinary uses but also due to its medicinal properties. Holy basil leaves have been widely used in Ayurveda since thousands of years. This herb is even mentioned in the “Charaka Samhita”, an ancient Ayurvedic text due to its excellent healing properties. In fact, basil leaves or tulsi leaves are considered as a universal cure for numerous diseases and promote longevity and overall well-being.

Basil leaves are equally beneficial for your hair and can help you get rid of a host of hair problems. The benefits of basil leaves for hair care are as follows.

Prevention of Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common problem which can occur due to itchiness and sweatiness of scalp. You can make a paste of basil leaves and add it to your hair oil. Applying this oil on your scalp will keep your scalp cool, reduce itchiness and promote hair growth by improving circulation in your scalp.

Treatment of Grey Hair

For this purpose, soak dried basil leaves powder and amla powder in water overnight and wash your hair with it after straining it the next morning. This prevents graying of hair as well as hair fall.

Strengthen the Hair Shaft

If you are suffering from brittle hair or hair thinning, you can consider basil leaves as they are effective in strengthening the hair shaft.

Rejuvenate Hair Follicles

Basil leaves help in rejuvenating and producing healthy hair by stimulating the hair follicles.

Prevention of Damage by Radiation

Basil leaves have antioxidant properties. They contain the flavonoids, orientin and vicenin that protect the chromosomes and cell structures from oxidation, thus preventing cell ageing and death and providing protection against radiation damage

HOW TO CREATE A HEALTHY HAIR REGIMEN

Hair regimen or Hair routine is simply a way we follow to care for our hair,it's a must have for every natural hair diva with the intention of achieving a healthy natural hair. Hair care regimen doesn't need to be massive or expensive, SIMPLICITY is the key. It's important to know that healthy hair/growth doesn't just happen overnight, its usually as a result of patience and judicious hair care.Below are the guide lines that will help you create a healthy regimen:

A.UNDERSTANDING YOUR HAIR
The number one basic step to creating a regimen is understanding your hair type, Porosity, Density, Elasticity and Texture.

B.CHOOSING THE RITE PRODUCTS
 Carefully choosing your hair care products is of great importance. It is either you go for DIY hair care products or you opt for store bought products. When going for store products, below are certain ingredients you must watch out for and avoid;
-Sodium laurel/Laurly sulfate/SLS/SLES
-Paraben
-Mineral oil
-Petrolatum/Petroluem jelly
-DEA,TEA,MEA
-FD & C color pigments
-Imidazolidinyl Urea
-DMDM Hydantoin
-Chlorine-Silicon
-Paraffin
-Propylene Glycol
-Isopropyl Alcohol

C.WEEKLY WASH
Weekly wash with either shampoo (shamwash) or conditioner(Cowash)

i) Shampoo: Finding a good sulfate free and moisturizing shampoo goes along way to help your hair or you can opt for a DIY shampoo. Washing your hair with shampoo could be done weekly or once in a month depending on your hair type and lifestyle and to this regards, you might want to try alternating it with a cowash.
Examples of store-bought sulfate free shampoos: Creme of Nature argan oil shampoo, Sheamoisture shampoo etc
ii)Instant Conditioner:A paraben free conditioner is best suitable for our natural hair. The instant conditioner can be used as a weekly cowash depending on your hair type and life style while alternating it with a shamwash. Examples of store bought heathy conditioners are crème of nature argan oil conditioner, VO5, Sheamoisture conditioner etc

 D.DEEP CONDITIONING(DC)/DEEP TREATMENT(DT)
Deep Conditioning Treatment comes in after hair wash on damp hair. DC like a life giver to the hair, supporting the hair system while it replenishes and puts moist back into the hair because our natural hair is ordinarily prone to dryness. Deep conditioning strengthens the hair roots, makes our hair more manageable, prevents breakage, split ends, dandruff, itchy scalp and dullness of hair. Its absolutely one treatment no hair should overlook.

TYPES OF DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS:
i)Moisturizing dc(weekly basis)
ii)Protein dc(once in month)
iii)Hydrolysed Protein dc(for transitioning and high porosity high hair types-Twice or once a month..Hydrolysed Protein dc recipes will be coming up soon)
iv)Hard protein dc
v)Hot oil treatment(A must do for all hair types,atleast 2x a month)
D.LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS
Leave-in conditioners plays an important role in keeping the hair intact after treatments as well as on daily basis. Enriching your hair after a deep treatment with leave-in conditioner is a considerably factor, however its important you go for a good leave-in conditioner that is more of water/liquid based and to this regards, you will need to make do with a sealer oil(like castor oil, olive oil) or cream(like shea or cocobutter) to help seal in the moist and futher protects ur hair from drying out.Leave-in conditioners is a daily affair especially the spritz and no regimen or hair care is complete without it.
Note;Leave-in conditioners as the name implies is never to be rinsed or wash out after application.

E.PROTECTIVE STYLING:
When going for protective stlyes, ensure you make do with what your hair/scalp would be comfortable with. If you feel pains or servere pressure on your scalp in the course of making your PS, pls do not proceed further. The hair follicles weakens when excess pressure is put on it which often times results in severe hair breakage and traction alopecia in most cases. Above all, ensure your hair is treated right while on PS and a long time wear of PS is not advised.Avoid an excess manipulation/combing of your hair(Very important) and avoid combing hair when dry.

F.NIGHT TIME HAIR CARE
Ensure you properly moisturize your hair and cover with a gud silk or stain scarf before going bed or better still sleep on a satin/silk pillow case. Also in the morning when you wake up, gently massage your scalp for atleast 2mins

A MUST HAVE HAIR CARE TOOLS:
1.Widetooth comb
2.Spray bottle
3.Plastic Cap/nylon bag
4.Measuring spoons
5.Mini bowel for ur DC mix
6.Satin/silk/bonnet cap
7.Soft clean towel or clean old T-shirt

How to Care for Your Gray African-American Hair Type

Many people are under the impression that Black hair has different elements than non-Black hair. Actually, the components of all hair types are essentially the same; it is in the way the elements of the hair are structured that result in the differences in texture. Often, the outer layer of the hair, called the cuticle, can be twice as thick for Black hair as it is for other types of hair. Black hair also tends to be drier because it is more difficult for the natural oil secretions to effectively penetrate the more tightly-curled hair. Gray hair is also in general, more resistant to coloring and chemical treatments than other hair colours.

Things You'll Need

Deep Conditioner
Shampoo especially designed for Grey hair
Hair colour especially designed for Hrey hair( if desired)
Hair oils, gels or pomade especially designed for black hair
Hot oil Treatment kit
Hair combs and brushes especially designed for black hair
Spray bottle for misting hair
Save scarf or pillowcase for protecting hair during sleep

Step 1
Decide whether you choose to wear your hair in a natural or relaxed style. Decide whether you will let your hair “go gray” or color it hair to conceal your gray. Select your hair care products based on your decision for hairstyle and color preference.

Step 2
Wash your hair no more than once a week, gently massaging your scalp. Carefully blot out excess water with a towel. Apply a leave-in deep conditioner.

Step 3
Have your hair professionally cut at least every six weeks. If desired, color your hair with a haircolor preparation made especially to cover gray. Use a hair moisturizing lotion, or Amaze shea butter-type oil daily.

Tips & Warnings

African-American hair tends to be more fragile than other types; therefore, take special care when combing and brushing your hair.
Using a special shampoo designed for graying hair will help alleviate a yellow tinge in your hair.
De-tangle your hair with upward instead of downward strokes.
Good nutritional habits will help to keep your gray hair healthy.
Gently mist your hair and scalp with a spray bottle in between shampooing especially if you sweat a lot or particular in sports and exercise.
Tie or cover your hair with a satin scarf or cap every night to protect it from excessive breakage.
If you decide to both chemically relax your hair and color it, relax it first.
Take care in the selection of a hair color when covering your gray hair; try not change your natural color no more than two shades lighter or darker.
Take particular cautions in keeping your gray hair moisturized with products specifically for Black hair types.
Gray hair in African-Americans tends to dry out and break off more easily; choose your hairstyle accordingly.

Cheers!

Amazing Frozen Lemons

Place the washed lemon in the freezer.
Once frozen, get your grater, & shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods!
On vegetables, salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce,
rice, sushi, fish dishes, ... the list is endless.

All the foods will get an unexpected wonderful taste!
Most likely, you only think of lemon juice as vitamin C ??
Not anymore! What's the major advantage of using the whole lemon other than preventing waste & adding new taste to your dishes?

Lemon peels contain as much as 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself & that's what you've been wasting! Lemon peels are health rejuvenators in eradicating toxic
elements in the body.

The surprising benefits of lemon is the miraculous ability to kill cancer cells! It is 10,000 times stronger
than chemotherapy!! Why do we not know about that?
Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits.

You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease.
Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific
effects of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the multimillionaires large corporations?

This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms,
it regulates blood pressure
& an antidepressant, combats stress & nervous disorders.

The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug
manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970,the extracts revealed that It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung & pancreas...

Your big day is one of those times when you’ll want to pull out all the stops as far as fashion goes. Don’t stop at the dress; your hair needs an accessory too! One or more of these 20 stunning wedding hair pieces are guaranteed to have you at “hello”.

CRYSTAL MIST

This piece is a delicate spray of crystals, typically mounted on a comb or clip.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Wear this piece as an accessory to an updo in thick hair This is a larger piece and should complement the hairstyle rather than compete with it.
Gown Style:
Pair with a strapless gown that has similar detail, such as small flowers or other white crystal accents. Be sure your other jewelry is similar as well.

PEARL PERFECTION

Reminiscent of Cinderella, this is a simple and elegant three-strand pearl headband.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Thick headbands like this work well as simple accents to straightforward hairstyles like this clean, high bun.
Gown Style:
Pair with a long, wide-strapped or halter gown that has classic, clean lines.
Tip:
This look would be fantastic with gloves!

DOUBLED UP

This gorgeous double-strand beaded headband is likely anchored with bobby pins behind each ear.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
This piece may be solid, like regular headbands, or loose, like the flow of a necklace. Either way, this style should be anchored behind the ears and worn in a large but free-flowing hairstyle like this one with lots of texture.
Gown Style:
Pair with a strapless gown that has similar details and clean lines.

DAINTY SUSANS

Delicate black-eyed Susan flowers on a solid, three-strand headband are held in place at the ends inside the hairstyle.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
This is a great accessory for those with fine hair because it’s not overpowering. Those with thick hair can wear it as well. The design complements curly and other texturized hairstyles very well!
Gown Style:
This piece would look great paired with a gown made with light, airy fabric or has similar flower accents.

BOLD BOW

This big bow is the center of attention on this multi-textured updo!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Bold accessories require big, bold hair. Use this clip in thick hairstyles and position it so that it goes with the flow of the hairstyle. Notice how this one follows the flow of the bun.
Gown Style:
If you like avant garde gowns, this accessory is for you! Not only is it a great statement piece for your hair, but you can use it with your regular clothing too after the big day.
Tip:
An accessory like this can easily take center stage. Be sure you can’t see it from the front or it will take attention away from your beautiful face in all your photos!

CRYSTAL CROWN

This tall crown fashioned from clear crystals really gives off a regal vibe.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
A crown this detailed is best set off by thick hair styled into a disheveled updo. The contrast of the dark hair color is a great backdrop for showing off the crown’s intricate details.
Gown Style:
Match this headpiece with a dress that has equally intricate details. Because it’s pretty big, it would look best with a one-shouldered or strapless dress so the overall look isn’t too heavy.

STAND-ALONE SPINS

These spin pin flowers can be placed on their own or in a cluster within your hairstyle!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
These single spin pins are great for all hair types! They don’t overpower fine hair and are easy to add to any hairstyle. Simply place them where you want them, and turn the metal twist into your style.
Gown Style:
Because of how many different shapes and styles of these pins there are, you can use them with virtually any gown. Remember to coordinate the style of the hair pins so they match your jewelry and the accents on your dress!

NATURE’S CALLING

These flowers represent a sort of sepia finish, giving your look a rustic elegance.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Hairstyles that incorporate soft waves or curls are a great match for this hair accessory. This piece is a bit on the heavy side, so if you have fine hair, wear it in a low updo before adding this to the back of the hairstyle.
Gown Style:
Pair these flowers with a dress of simple lines and flowy fabrics. It will fit in perfectly with “rustic charm” wedding themes!

OLD WORLD STYLE

This cluster of flowers large and small keeps things interesting by incorporating various sizes.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Thick hair supports these larger accessories best, though fine hair that is properly teased underneath would be great as well. Choose a hairstyle that has large flowing sections.
Gown Style:
Gowns with lace detail work beautifully with these peach roses. Alternately, a strapless or one-sided gown would balance the flowers nicely as well.

SILKY SWAG

A large, silk bow adds flash and flair to your wedding day look!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
This smooth and simple accessory works best with simple hairstyles such as this high bun. Choose a hairstyle with lots of height so that the hair supports the accessory and the bow doesn’t overpower your face.
Gown Style:
Choose a gown in a fabric that has texture. It will contrast the smooth finish of the bow very nicely.

FOREFLOWERS

This flower and pearl headband can be worn as normal, or over the forehead as shown in the photo!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
A low chignon or twisted hairstyle would complement this headpiece perfectly and it can be incorporated into both fine and thick hairstyles.
Gown Style:
This accessory is balanced perfectly with a strapless gown and veil that’s worn in the middle of the back of the head.
Tip:
When requesting a low updo, be sure the hairstyle is full enough in the back that you can see some of it from the front. If you can’t see enough from the front, you risk looking like you just have your hair pulled into a ponytail.

PERFECT PEARLS

A simple clip with two rows of pearls is the classic complement to an ornate dress.

Pair this accessory with a strapless, one-shoulder, or halter gown that also has feather details or one that is smooth and simple.

THE FINER THINGS

Pearls and feathers come together for a unique accessory that looks great worn off to the side.

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
The dangling pearls in this clip make it ideal for both placing it in the front or the back of your hairstyle. If you place it in front, place it just above and to the side of your temple.
Gown Style:
Because this accessory is detailed, you’ll want to pair it with a similarly detailed dress that is strapless or single-sided.

PRETTY PASTELS

Add a pop of color to your big day look with lovely orchids!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
These larger flowers look best in a hairstyle that is full of volume and curls. Thick hair is best, but fine hair is okay too as long as there is a good base underneath so the flowers can be pinned securely.
Gown Style:
Pair these beauties with a strapless or one-shoulder dress. They will look great with both modern floral textures as well as simple, smooth dresses.

BOOM BOOM POW!

Pack a punch of style with this bold hair accessory!

Best Hairstyle and Hair Type:
Keep it super simple with your hair if you choose this accessory. It is loud and proud, so you don’t want your hair competing for attention. A large, clean bun worn high on the head is best and you can add extensions to get the bun as thick as the model’s in this photo.
Gown Style:
Strapless princess dresses that have gathered organza from the waist down will look fabulous with this hairpiece!
If you follow our style cues and from toes to tiara, everything will be just right on your special day. Smile big, laugh loud, and love lots with these stunning wedding hair pieces!
